The Full Story

buildOn at UCLA

Alongside the hundreds of buildOn chapters worldwide, our club remains adamant that the work we do is not charity, but rather a movement.

As an organization, we work with communities in some of the most impacted countries in the developing world: Haiti, Nicaragua, Guatemala, Senegal, Malawi, Mali, Nepal, and Burkina Faso. In tandem with these governments and communities, we help build primary schools by fundraising money that goes towards some of the locally sourced materials and the in-country engineers. The communities, in turn, donate land, material, and their own time to build the school.

Mission

"Our mission is to break the cycle of poverty, illiteracy, and low expectations through service and education. We mobilize U.S. students to transform their communities through service and change the world by building schools in developing countries."

Buildon's impact

Globally, which is the program our chapter focuses on, buildOn has built 1,841 schools with 249,985 students currently attending our schools. In the US, 4,847 students in under-resourced communities have served 2.3 million hours helping seniors, the unhoused, and younger kids. 98% of these students graduate high school.
